What I offer
I am a death doula (also known as an end-of-life doula, end-of-life coach, death midwife, or death coach), and my role is to assist a dying person and their loved ones before, during, and after death. We all will live and die, and it is never too early to start fully embracing, talking about, and planning for your death and the death of those you love.
By choosing to work with me, you and your loved ones will benefit from having a safe space to share your fears, concerns, and hopes. By talking with you and sharing my expertise and knowledge, I aim to empower you to make well-informed decisions that align with your cultural identity, values and preferences and to support your family as they prepare for your death. I can be instructed to advocate on your behalf, ensuring your needs and wishes are respected and understood.
Importantly, I don't provide medical assistance. My role is to work with the these professionals and others who may be supporting you and your family, providing a specific focus on the dying person's wishes, as they have been shared and planned for.
1
Care Planning Expertise
Getting the paperwork right: Assistance in future care planning (to help people plan how they wish to journey towards death and die with dignity).
2
Co-designed Care and Support Packages
End-of-life care and support (offering non-medical support – social, spiritual and emotional), working with health and medical teams, supporting a dying person during the last phase of their lives. This also includes death cleaning (supporting the clearing out of homes and personal spaces). Importantly, I support vigil and other end-of-life family and cultural rituals and practices.
3
Raise awareness and advocate
Create opportunities to raise awareness of death, dying, and loss, providing training, education and advice (for individuals and their families, communities, as well as for organisations and companies). Having worked as a Professor of Sociology for many years, my work brings together cultural insight, evidence‑based knowledge, and compassionate practice to support inclusive services, sector development, and meaningful conversations about death and dying. My talks and workshops can be tailored for professionals, academics, students, community groups, or public audiences.
4
Consultancy, Research and Public Speaking
Alongside my doula practice, I offer consultancy, research collaboration, and public speaking for organisations and communities seeking deeper understanding of end‑of‑life care. My research explores end‑of‑life practices, rituals, and experiences across African and diasporic communities, I collaborate with universities, charities, and sector partners to shape evidence‑based insights, contribute to policy conversations, and support projects that centre plural knowledges and community‑rooted approaches. I welcome invitations to contribute to research projects, advisory groups, and knowledge‑exchange initiatives.
